Sometimes we know the answer, especially if the dog has been there a while and we are able to observe it's habits. Or if the dog was turned in and the owner is able to share information with us. But usually, we don't know. Simply because the dog spends the majority of it's day in a pen and it's impossible to hold it in that long.
This can be difficult to determine since we do not place dogs and cats together, due to the safety of the animals. Sometimes, we can determine if the dog is friendly (through the next fence) with other dogs. But dogs in this environment can act differently when they get into a home environment where food and personal space are shared.
To adopt a pet, you must meet the pet in a one-on-one environment to determine if this is the pet for you. Then you must fill out an adoption contract. There is also an adoption fee.
The fees cover the cost of a microchip, spaying or neutering, as well as a mandated rabies shot and all required vaccinations.
